USA Today reports: Government shutdown: Congress back at work, Trump to give prime-time address. Will it matter?
5:40 AM EST
Excerpt: Congressional Democrats will take another stab at reopening shuttered federal agencies this week and President Donald Trump will take his case for a border wall directly to the American people as the partial government shutdown stretches into one of the longest in history...

But the shutdown, now in its third week, is almost certain to go on through the remainder of this week and possibly longer.

CNN posted: Millions could lose food assistance if shutdown drags on
Updated 6:36 PM ET, Mon January 7, 2019
Excerpt: Funding for food stamps, school lunches and nutrition for pregnant women and young children is expected to run out next month if the impasse isn't resolved, experts say.

Washington Department of Social & Health Services clarifies:
What would happen with Welfare or Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF)?
If you receive cash benefits through Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) there are no anticipated impacts to benefits if a federal government shutdown were to occur.

How would my food benefits be affected?
If you receive food benefits that come from federal funding (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) or the Food and Nutrition Service (FNS), funded through the United States Department of Agriculture) and there was a government shutdown, services would not immediately be impacted.

Washington State Library: State Library helps provide adult learning opportunities
Washington state residents who want to get ahead in education or a career but lack a high-school diploma or English skills can now get help close to home. Educational partnerships between community colleges, local libraries, and the Washington State Library are providing the help residents need to advance toward their life goals.

In High School 21+, an adult learner can turn life experiences into credits toward a high-school diploma, and take classes at two-year colleges that cover high-school curriculum. HS 21+ expands these educational opportunities from college campuses into libraries statewide, where college instructors will help students move ahead toward that next job or school goal that a high-school diploma will enable.

Integrated Digital English Acceleration (I-DEA) teaches English-language skills to adult learners who face the largest language gaps. A 31-week series of online lessons on English as a second language are supplemented with in-class instruction and practice time to build functional fluency. I-DEA students rapidly gain a set of language skills that are useful in both their everyday lives and their careers.
