WSFS welcomed a special visitor this week as Tom Todd demonstrated how to tap maple trees and make syrup! The children got to participate in the tapping and collecting process as well as taste some of the syrup Tom had made! We were all surprised to see how fast the bucket filled as we had to empty it first thing in the morning the next day! Older students also learned about identifying maple trees, working with the ratio of sap to syrup (43:1 here in the Pacific Northwest) and understanding the process of hydraulic lift. We LOVE having visitors from right her in our community visit and teach us about resources in our own back yards - thank you Tom!!

Toledo School District: January is School Board Recognition Month
By proclamation of the governor, January is School Board Recognition Month. It’s a great time to recognize our elected community members who selflessly give their time and energy in support of high-quality public schooling for our youth. School board members in Toledo are entrusted by this community with responsibility for an annual budget of $10.6 million,789 students, 112 employees and four schools.

This January, we’re encouraging all members of the community to thank a board member. Please thank them for volunteering their time and playing a critical civic role that helps form the bedrock of our democracy—public education. As a crucial bridge between the local community and the school district, their efforts are instrumental in helping all of us realize the hopes and dreams we have for the children of our community.
