Winter Storm Warning has been issued for East Puget Sound lowlands from Everett to Eatonville. Heavy snowfall rates through the morning commute will create snow-covered roads and reductions in visibility.

In the event that school operations are impacted by weather, you’ll see it here first. We post also to the major media outlets (radio and TV). In addition, families will hear a recorded message from Mandy. We make decisions after driving the typical trouble spots in the district and announce by 5:30 am. Weather forecasts show a possibility of snow this weekend.

Good News Monday:
  • Out-Of-Work Appalachian Coal Miners Train As Beekeepers
  • Harrison (AR) girl making nursing home residents' wishes come true
  • Blue light exposure decreases systolic blood pressure, arterial stiffness, and improves endothelial function in humans...
This is not the first time that (visible) blue light has been revealed to have a positive impact on people’s health. Because blue lighting has been linked to improving mood, dozens of Japanese train stations have installed blue lighting as a means of reducing their suicide rates. Over the course of 10 years, the suicide rate at the stations plummeted by 84%.

*Does this mean more (blue light) screen time is actually good for me?

FDA: Stryker Launches Voluntary Field Action for Specific Units of the LIFEPAK® 15 Monitor/Defibrillator
For Immediate Release February 1, 2019

Announcement
Stryker announced today that the company is launching a voluntary field action on specific units of the LIFEPAK 15 Monitor/Defibrillators.

The company is notifying certain LIFEPAK 15 customers of an issue that may cause the device to lock up after a defibrillation shock is delivered. The lock-up condition is defined as a blank monitor display with LED lights on, indicating power to the device, but no response in the keypad and device functions. A device in this condition has the potential to delay delivery of therapy, and this delay in therapy has the potential to result in serious injury or death...

Governor Jay Inslee supports: To help salmon migrate, Ecology issues proposal allowing more water to spill over dams
The Washington Department of Ecology is issuing a proposal to allow more water to spill over eight federal dams along the lower Columbia and Snake rivers. Location: Washington State School for the Blind, Fries Auditorium (Old Main Building)
2214 East 13th Street. Vancouver

WSU Lewis County Master Gardeners shared a post by
Can you accidentally buy GMO seeds? It's extremely unlikely!

Picture
We'll save the GMO debate for another day, but rest assured that gardeners are extremely unlikely to accidentally obtain genetically modified seeds for use in their vegetable garden.

Walk into many if not most garden supply stores and you will see signs above some of the seed packet displays that state, "NON GMO" or "GMO FREE." We interpret this to mean that the seeds in the display rack have not been genetically modified by modern methods of gene editing. And it implies that one can obtain GMO seeds in little packets somewhere else in the store or perhaps at another garden center.

These signs are a marketing tool that may be accurate but are misleading. Why? Because garden supply stores CAN NOT sell GMO seeds to gardeners! You can't currently buy GMO seeds without first signing a multi-page contract with the company that owns the patent and agree to several conditions and restrictions. Depending upon the plant variety, these restrictions can be quite limiting and include agreeing to not save seeds from each year's crop to plant the next year.

So don't worry, it is extremely unlikely you will obtain these seeds accidentally.
