Old Business:
Library: Pat Caldwell said grant applications for 2 new computers and a printer have been made. Reminder: Julie Zander presents “Telling Your Stories” 6:30 p.m. March 7th at the library.
Historical Society: Don Brenner said 3 new members joined this month. 150 Car Calendars have been sold, Marie Oberg plans to print “School is Cool” booklet outlining history and sites of the old schoolhouses in the greater Toledo area.
School Garden Initiative: Toledo native Brooke Acosta is new director of the SGI at Toledo Elementary. Joh Jones is working toward a grant for a Hoop House greenhouse.
New business:
EPA Cool & Connected Grant: Sheila Richardson reported ToledoTel, City of Toledo, v:T, and volunteer Larry Davidson have collaborated to submit a letter of Interest to a pilot program called "Cool and Connect" through the Environmental Protection Agency. More about the program can be found here: http://www.epa.gov/smartgrowth/smart-growth-small-towns-and-rural-communities
Riverfest: Mike reported Toledo Lions Club will be running the Steelhead Fishing Derby this year July 23. A BBQ is planned, possibly a beer garden and live music. Should v:T get involved by reviving Riverfest at the same time? The biggest concern: finding enough volunteers to help organize and run it. After much discussion, the group decided to bring it up at the BIG Community Meeting next month.
Other Business:
BIG Community Meeting: Mike outlined the plan for this 5th annual v:T community meeting to be held again at Toledo Middle School March 15 to update everyone about what's been happening in Toledo this past year, and learn about new events and projects in the works. Folks will be encouraged to sign up and get involved.
Next v:T A.R.E meeting 6:30 p.m. March 22 at The MAC. Visit www.morganartscentre.com or call (360)864-4ART.
