Captured right from my office chair, this striking flicker taking over the suet feeder while the chickadees and finches watch from a safe distance.

Two daily emails bring free (and bargain-priced) ebooks right to my tablet, smartphone and even desktop. Ereader News Today and BookBub offer free (and bargain-priced) ebooks for Kindle, Nook and Kobo apps, plus Google Play and iBooks. You can borrow ebooks through Timberland Regional Library as well. And if you just can’t put that ebook down, then consider a screen dimming app and save eyestrain. Compare here.

March 30 Senior Center serves BBQ ribs, scalloped potatoes, NW blend veggies, apricots and biscuit. April 1 menu is Swedish Meatballs and mashed potatoes with mixed veggies, peaches and dinner roll. Nutrition Lunches featured Wednesdays and Fridays weekly. Sponsored in part by Area Agency on Aging. RSVP $3/over 60. Contact Diana, diana.haug@lewiscountywa.gov or (360)864-2112.

Friday is my favorite holiday of the year, April Fool’s Day or All Fool’s Day. Where some might gird themselves for Christmas shopping beginning midnight on Friday following Thanksgiving Day, designing a magnificent hoax would reward me with that stunned gaze of the unsuspecting victim. Relax, I’ve retired most of my favorite pranks now. But I do have a couple extraordinary masterpieces to share at the end of the week. And if you want to reveal your own trophy spoof in this column on Friday, anonymously or otherwise, you are invited to join me in celebrating this under-appreciated special day. Meanwhile Google has a Wikipedia page dedicated solely to their hijinks here. (Or scan their top 5 here.) My favorite: TiSP
