April Garden Science - "Trees"
×In observance of Earth and Arbor Days this month, students learned about trees and the gifts that they provide.
×Students sampled a simple kale salad made from kale and garlic from the garden.
×Thanks to a generous donation from Weyerhaeuser, each student took home a Douglas-fir seedling. They should be planted as soon as possible, preferably into a 1 gallon pot until next winter.

Brooke’s post: Garden Club will start Tuesday, April 24th (today).

If there are community members interested in volunteering please message me.

    As May 18 approaches...
Toledo’s Astrophysicist Ethan Siegel posted: “Every few months, a volcanic eruption occurs on Earth, with lava flows and enormous plumes of volcanic ash. These small eruptions might produce only ~0.01 cubic kilometers of ash, while large, rare ones can produce thousands. Unlike the result of combustion, however, what we call volcanic ash isn’t ash at all.”
When you burn something like wood, coal, oil, or gas, the ash you produce is whatever’s left after the combustion reaction, combining the fuel with oxygen in the pres...

From Lewis County Area: Free, Wanted, For Sale:

Hi everyone... I wanted to give a heads up for everyone that goes to Walmart in Chehalis... first off... I was there at 7:30 tonight (04.23.2018) and they were having an issue scanning my bank card, kept having me re trying to have it scan, and wouldn’t work, I live in Yelm so finally I had enough and decided to stop at the one in Yelm to get my dog food, diapers and wipes. Decided to check my bank and sure enough I have 6 transactions of $108 pending..  More...

The Chip Guy advised: A WARNING ABOUT ROMAINE LETTUCE WAS ISSUED FROM THE CDC AN HOUR AGO (04.20.2018)...
IF YOU GOT SOME FROM THE WAREHOUSE THE OTHER DAY, CHECK TO SEE IF IT FROM YUMA ARIZONA. IF SO, THROW IT OUT,
IF YOU ARE NOT SURE, THEN THROW IT OUT JUST TO BE SAFE.

Update from Claims Journal (04.23.2018): Previously, CDC officials had only warned against chopped romaine by itself or as part of salads and salad mixes. But they are now extending the risk to heads or hearts of romaine lettuce.
One more reason to support local growers. Toledo Thursday Market begins May 10.
