Toledo High School Basketball Annual Blueberry Plant Sale runs two more Saturdays at Riverview Hardware and Feed. Although plants are available for purchase directly, all monies raised these four weekends go to the High School Basketball program. Along with several varieties of blueberries, they offer lingonberries, huckleberries, and strawberry plants.
Sunday, May 8 is also* a "Fee-Free Day" at our State Parks. On this day, all are welcome where a Discover Pass in not required to visit. For additional rules, visit the State of Washington State Parks website here.

Yesterday I contacted a member of the long-time Toledo Garden Club to update my records, only to discover dwindling attendance compelled them to merge with the Winolequa Garden Club of Winlock. And while I’m sad to see this cozy group disappear from our village, joining the neighboring town organization strengthens the bonds we already share - combined sports, the upcoming Battle of the CowlArtz at Gallery 505 and more.
Last week’s East Lewis County Journal featured a photo and review of Morton’s Chamber of Commerce After Hours Event held April 18 at Chimi’s Family Restaurant in Toledo, including all three LewCo Commissioners and other dignitaries. CoC Manager Cathy Kane confided that Morton’s promotion of Toledo along the scenic route to Mt St Helens was good for both towns.

So last Friday on my way to visit friends in Puget Sound, I overnighted in Morton at the newly, “greenly” updated Cowlitz Landing Hotel (recommended by a clerk at the local grocery), enjoyed a salmon dinner, took in The Scoundrel of Dagger Gulch, a theatrical production with vaudeville acts following as part of Morton’s Mountain Fest, slept soundly and awoke to in-room Keurig coffee, finishing with the complimentary breakfast bar before setting off to Enumclaw via State Route 123 and Mt Rainier National Park.
