FDA: The chemicals in sunscreen seep into your bloodstream after just one day (JAMA)
The chemicals in sunscreen don't just sit there on top of your skin, they actually absorb into your bloodstream, according to new research from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
Published Monday in the peer-reviewed medical journal JAMA, a new report found that several active ingredients in sunscreens enter the bloodstream at levels that far exceed the FDA's recommended limits without a government safety inspection.
For all ingredients, the levels of all chemicals far exceeded that limit on the first day of the study. Three of the ingredients remained in the bloodstream for seven days. For oxybenzone, which has been found along with other sunscreen ingredients in breast milk, plasma concentrations reached the threshold within two hours after a single application and exceeded 20 ng/mL on day 7 of the study.
Oxybenzone is also believed by scientists to be toxic to coral reefs, which has led Hawaii to ban sunscreens that contain it. (USA TODAY)

Washington State Office of the Insurance Commissioner alerted Tuesday:
The FTC is warning consumers about a new #scam ... don't call back if you get a one-ring phone call!
Get a one-ring call? Don’t call back.

Michael Atleson,Acting Assistant Director, Division of Consumer & Business Education
A while back, we warned you about the “one ring” scam. That’s when you get a phone call from a number you don’t know, and the call stops after just one ring. The scammer is hoping you’ll call back, because it’s really an international toll number and will appear as a charge on your phone bill — with most of the money going to the scammer. Well, the scam is back with a vengeance, and the FCC just issued a new advisory about it. Read the FCC’s advisory for more detail, but the advice from both agencies remains the same if you get one of these calls:
- Don’t call back
- Report the robocall to the FTC at www.donotcall.gov and to the FCC at www.fcc.gov/complaints
- Always check your phone bill for suspicious or unusual charges.

Common Ground Toledo ISO* Youthful Garden Help
We have several "older citizens" living in the Toledo area who have expressed a desire/need for younger fingers, backs and legs to help them in their yard/gardens. If you know of reliable, helpful, kind, considerate young women or men (may be high school students) who are willing workers...we can make some introductions. Each of these "older citizens" are willing to pay for the services of the young women and men. We are talking about weed pulling, small plant removal and planting, some yard upkeep...not heavy duty landscaping projects. PM for contact and more information. Thanks !
