Health Corner: On Suicide - The Silent Epidemic
Toledo veteran Jake Dailey wrote April 4: A veteran I know committed suicide last night. I’m sick of how the government isn’t doing anything to fix the problems they have created. They use and abuse us and throw us away like trash. I’m sad about the suicide and I’m sad that it’s going to keep happening.
His post triggered 2 dozen comments, but he related how close to home this tragedy really hit in this post November 2017.
It begins: I joined the ARMY after High School because I really loved this country. I was a Combat Medic. I got stationed at Fort Lewis just outside of Tacoma, Washington. I met the love of my life while she was in nursing school, and shortly after I arrived in Washington. We got married, then 3 weeks later I deployed to Iraq where I had the worst year of my life...
Another local man has shared his voice with others in a 90 second video trailer on talkituptv.com which will be airing a show on this emotional topic Summer 2018.
Posted to Facebook: Each year, nearly 45,000 Americans die by suicide.
It's time to talk. It's time to talk about mental illness. It's time to talk about abuse. It's time to talk about everything we've been suffering through in silence, thinking we're alone or misunderstood. We are not alone.
Let's tell our stories.
We all have the power to save lives.
Talk It Up Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization committed to bring attention to important issues and provide solutions.
“Our foundation has an award-winning web series, Talk It Up TV, which is dedicated to positive media and creating solutions to tragedy. We help those who have fallen through the cracks by lifting them back up when they need us most. Instead of walking away, typically seen in today's media when covering tragedy, we stay and create a positive ending to each story with a life-changing act of kindness...”
