Toledo School District posted Wednesday: Thanks to everyone who attended last night's Community Meeting. Those who raised their hands indicated that they support placing a $7 million bond measure on the November ballot with a bond term of 21 years.
The board will consider this issue at the May 17 regular board meeting at 7 p.m. at TMS.
There were three questions that came from the audience. Two were answered while the third required some investigation. The questions and answers can be found at https://www.dropbox.com/…/Response%20to%20Questions%20from%…
TES PTO shared: It looks like it is going to be a nice day for the Jog-A-Thon next Tuesday! We put some of the prizes on display in the glass display case at the school.
Check them out with your kiddos and get them excited to be involved. The more fundraising they do, the more raffle tickets they earn and the more chances they have to win!
Health Corner: On Allergies
May 13-19 is Food Allergy Awareness Week.
mindbodygreen.com posted Allergies Out Of Control? Here's What's Causing All That Inflammation explaining the connection between gut health and seasonal allergies. Hint: sterilizing our home and work environment is linked to epidemic asthma and allergy rates.
Of particular interest is a small study which saw kids with peanut allergies reverse those life-threatening responses. More research is needed. Translation: don’t try this at home!*
everydayhealth.com explains: Adults Aren't Immune From First-Time Allergies
Mayo Clinic covers Symptoms & Causes, with a brief description of what happens:
Your immune system produces substances known as antibodies. When you have allergies, your immune system makes antibodies that identify a particular allergen as harmful, even though it isn't. When you come into contact with the allergen, your immune system's reaction can inflame your skin, sinuses, airways or digestive system.*
healthywomen.org notes: Adults usually do not lose their allergies, but children may outgrow them. In addition, while people are born with a genetic predisposition to allergies, sometimes they don't develop them until well into adulthood. Exactly why this occurs is unknown…
It's not uncommon for women with allergies to develop asthma.*
Food Allergy Research & Education (FARE) published Food Allergy Myths and Misconceptions:
Myth: Each allergic reaction will get worse and worse.
Fact: Food allergy reactions are unpredictable. The way your body reacts to a food allergen one time cannot predict how it will react the next time. You don't know if a reaction is going to be mild, moderate or severe.
Meanwhile, weather.com allergy tracker lists tree & grass pollen Very High through Tuesday.
Spring is now in session.
***Disclaimer: As always, check with your medical practitioner before embarking on lifestyle changes. Health Corner topics are intended to raise questions rather than answer them definitively. Things change. New knowledge arises. Ancient wisdom is revived.
And miracles take place against all odds.
