Toledo High School Sweat Equity Phase II: Our thanks to all those who participated in the "Sweat Equity" fence building project on Saturday. Eight of Toledo's finest came out to dig holes, pour concrete, spread gravel, and plumb posts. Special thanks to Morgan Tjemsland for bringing his tractor and auger, and to Brad Dykstra for getting the extra rock. We're ready for phase 2 of the project this Saturday: stringing the chain link fabric and finishing the fence. We'll need lots of hands for this. Hope you can join in.
Heads up: June 1 Scholarship Night at Toledo High School 7 p.m.
Vision:Toledo Arts, Rec & Events heard reports from several community special interest groups last night.
Common Ground Toledo welcomed kudos for City Park Memorial Garden make-over, especially the gravel pathway leading toward a nearby bench. The Oregon Trail Marker gardenscape is doing well, hardy plants bearing up nicely. Five downtown tree planters revitalized, two trees transplanted to Memorial Garden at City Park. Two replacement trees will be installed at planters Fall or Spring, current tall plants adding color and contrast. Toledo Hardware/NAPA planters jointly upgraded this week by CGT & Tonya Lovell, proprietor. CGT emailed a report to the City last week, highlighting three projects (Memorial Garden, Oregon Trail Marker, tree planters), CGT’s move to gain independent non-profit status, and thanking the community for supporting their efforts with time, donations, and plant sales.
Steamboat Alley declared the Mural completed, clear coat awaiting good weather. The City will install a bollard to eliminate vehicle traffic. Pavers and sand slated for installation June 3 - Clean Up Day - with planters to follow shortly. Reminder: Orders for personalized pavers must be received by Memorial Day to be installed by Cheese Days.
City Water Tank Mural - Mural postponed until later this week, due to weather and scheduling delays.
Community Clean Up June 3 will include one collection bin for brush and yard debris only. Detailed listing of acceptable/unacceptable materials will be posted prior to the date. Contact City of Toledo for specifics.
