Gracie’s Surgery Update: Local celebrity mascot Gracie Whiteside GoFundMe campaign posted the third update...

We received Gracie’s cancer biopsy and the Vet is very pleased with the results. Gracie has clean margins and is cancer free in the tissue beneath where the tumor was removed. It was a stage 2 low grade tumor with a low chance that it will re-occur.

We are so happy that our little Gracie got a clean bill of health. She is slowly recovering and is getting back to her silly and sassy little self. A neat little row of stitches on her back-left leg will get removed next week and the surgical area looks to be healing well without infection.

Thanks again for all the love, support and donations so Gracie could get this surgery done. We are blessed beyond measure to have such kind family, friends and Facebook connections that know how much our little Gracie means to us. All your generous donations helped to pay for the surgery in full which has brought us an extra measure of peace. A HUGE THANK YOU for all the kindness.

Gary, Kathy and Gracie too

*Gracie Whiteside has her own FB page.

Lewis County Solid Waste Utility shared:

If you think you may be having well water issues or just want to know the quality of your water, Lewis County Public Health & Social Services (LCPHSS) can test it for you.

Two, simple $28 tests will accurately determine whether your well has coliform bacteria or nitrates in the water.
Coliform bacteria are organisms that are present in the environment and in the feces of all warm-blooded animals and humans. Coliform bacteria presence in drinking water indicates that disease-causing organisms (pathogens) could be in the water system.
Nitrates are chemicals found in most fertilizers, manure and liquid waste discharged from septic systems. It reduces the ability of red blood cells to carry oxygen, which can lead to serious health problems.
The first step to having your water tested is to purchase sample bottles on the third floor of the Public Health Building, at 360 NW North St. in Chehalis. Hours to purchase sample bottles are Monday through Friday, 8 am to 4:30 pm, excluding holidays. The bottles come with instructions for taking accurate water samples. The LCPHS lab is Washington State certified to test for coliform and nitrates. A $28 fee per test covers the cost of the bottle and each test requested.
The second step is to return the samples to one of the following locations. You will be notified of the results.
• LCPHSS Building, 360 NW North Street, Chehalis
Coliform tests accepted Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, 8 am to 4:30 pm
Nitrates tests accepted Mondays and Tuesdays only, 8 am to 4:30 pm

• Coliform and nitrates tests may be dropped off by 9:30 am on the first Monday of the month at: - Silver Creek Post Office
- Morton City Hall
- Randle Post Office
- Packwood Post Office
If a holiday occurs during the first week a month, drop-off changes to the 2nd Monday by 9:30 am. Drop-off only at these locations. There are no testing bottles for purchase.
If you have water testing questions, you can call (360) 740-1237 or (360) 740-1222.

Additionally: (It is) strongly recommended to test for bacteria at least every year and for nitrate at least every three years. Systems with nitrate concentrations greater than 3.0 ppm should be tested more frequently.

Summer Camps Coordinator Annie Jones invites:
Toledo Friends! Want to be involved in making summer adventure camps magical and awesome for kids in our community? Here’s how you can help:
There are 4 kids signed up for camps who are in need of partial scholarships and one in need of a full scholarship. Can you help?
We need a few more guest volunteers Tuesdays and Wednesdays each week in July to come read a script/story to the kids at 1:30-3 or assist with a craft or field game (supplies and instructions provided) from 3-3:30. Can you help?
See Details here

The supportive response of this community last summer is the reason MAP was able to get rolling and provide summer and after school programs for so many kids throughout the year, including those in financial need! Let’s do it again - this time we’re giving kids the chance to experience a taste of real summer adventure camp, getting outside, active, and engaged with their world in meaningful ways, learning lots while having fun and making memories!
Thanks in advance.
