FDA News Release: Federal officials seize adulterated dietary supplements from Life Rising Corporation due to poor manufacturing practices
June 14, 2019 - At the request of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, U.S. Marshals seized more than 300,000 containers of dietary supplements, including tablets, capsules, and teas from Life Rising Corporation. The seized goods, which were held by Life Rising or manufactured in the company’s facility located in Willowbrook, Ill., consisted of more than 500 products bearing brand names Life Rising, Holicare, or HopeStream, and are valued at approximately $3.5 million. The U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois determined there was probable cause that the company prepared, packed, and/or held dietary supplements under conditions that do not conform to the dietary supplement current good manufacturing practice (CGMP) requirements.
Last month, the FDA also issued a safety alert for three Life Rising products (Life Rising Holder-W Holder Warmer capsules, Life Rising NECK-ND Neck Clear capsules, and HoliCare Metabolism Cleansing (MET-CLS) tablets) because those products may be contaminated with lead. These products were recalled by the company on May 2, just before the FDA’s safety alert. Lead exposure is extremely dangerous and can cause extensive damage to the nervous system and internal organs.

Guest Post: Annie Jones - Kindness Makes The World Go Round
*In what began as a shout out to the community, this thread started last Thursday has grown into a Who’s Who in Volunteering around the Greatway to Mt St Helens. Kudos to Annie Jones for posting this lengthening Thank You note.
“Kindness makes the world go ‘round’”
I’m convinced this community would not exist without its volunteers. I was just sitting here feeling overwhelmed by how many people I am personally connected to or aware of who volunteer to make our community work and ultimately thrive! And by “community” I mean Toledo/Winlock/Vader because really, let’s face it - being small cities, we all need each other and function much better when we work together. Did you know that so many of the good things that happen here are done by volunteers?! Here’s just a sample list - please feel free to add more in the comments!
Planters and gardens around town
Managing farmers markets
Town clean up
Parent Teacher Organizations
School fundraisers so our children can have field trips, technology and other important enrichment opportunities
News reporting and promotions
Cheese days and other events
Community center classes
Scouts and other service clubs
Fire fighters and so much more!
These are just a few (in no special order) of the people I happen to know personally who volunteer on at least a weekly basis but many of them volunteer several times a week or even daily so our town can thrive - if you see them please acknowledge them with a thanks, a smile and nod, a high five, or even a hug if that seems appropriate!
“Namaste” in one translation means “the light (goodness) inside of me honors/thanks/bows to the light (goodness) inside of you”. To everyone (so many more than this list, I know!) who volunteers as a way of investing and acting on your commitment to this community -
Alicia Alicia Luna Ortiz, Jamie Cummings, Brooke Brooke Sellards Acosta,
Brian and Joanne Dennis, Carol Majewski, Mike and Di Morgan, Cyndi Philbrook, Jake Morgan, Jeff Landrum, Chris Rust, Tina Lyon, Kelly Schey, Jo Joe Schey, Wendy Carolan, Michelle Conrow, Jake Dailey, Ethan Siegel, Ann-Marie Todd, Jessica Callahan, Sarah Landrum, Marlea Hanson, Lori Neumann-Niles, Tim Neumann-Niles, Renae Buswell, Tom Todd, Ann-Marie Dillon...
Ha! I knew I wouldn’t be able to stop once I started listing people... but seriously, see? Feel free to add to this list in the comments - there are many more I know of and probably even more that I don’t! It really does take a village and we have got a good one. There is always more to be done and volunteers need break too so if you are looking for a way to plug in please contact me and let’s chat! I know there’s something for everyone, even if you only have 20 minutes per week...
