Health Corner: Pet Health* Part 1- Parasites

Pest control measures are critical to your pets and your family. Pets & Parasites lists those affecting your household pets, which ones threaten human health as well, offers advice on reducing risk and prevention in a downloadable PDF.

PetMD covers 4 Surprising Flea Diseases You Need To Know (including plague) as part of their 2017 Flea & Tick Survival Guide, while Money Talks News posts Cheap Ways To Protect Your Pet (and Home) From Fleas, which is also greener & safer for small children (and everyone).**

Ear mites are more common in outdoor cats & kittens, and commonly passed along to dogs through regular interaction. Secondary bacterial infections from scratching and licking add to the misery. Typically a vet’s intervention is required. However, Naturally Daily offers several homemade remedies.**

Doctors Foster & Smith address 4 common types of worms people can get from pets, either directly or through soil (think: pets in garden areas, or children’s sandboxes, dog parks). Good hygiene including thorough hand washing complements rodent control and worming program.

What remedies and practices have you found that eliminate or prevent infestations? Share your success in the Comments section.
