With Cheese Days nearly eclipsing the 3-day weekend, sharing holidays and festivities with our neighbors funds important community organizations, honors volunteers of every stripe, and generates good will. A story…
Once upon a farm, a shrewd agriculturist invested in extraordinarily high-yield grain guaranteed to triple his crop. When he bragged to his neighbors about the seed, they asked him to share. “Oh no,” he said, “I have only enough for my own fields!”
So he sowed, tended and harvested a bumper crop that year, netting him a handsome profit.
The second year was also a very good harvest, having re-seeded with some of the saved grain. The third year was somewhat better than usual, but not remarkable.
Because as every grower knows, cross-pollination from the inferior crops nearby weakened his own.
