Update on Rylee Rae Birdwell, sharing from her mothers post: Rylee is out of surgery and will be in the ICU within the hour (7:27 PM Monday). The surgery had some setbacks but we are focused on the healing process ahead. Because I don't have the strength to go into all the details I will ask that you pray even harder now. We are standing on the promise of healing and know that God has his hands on Rylee and we are claiming victory. I can't believe how strong she has been thru this entire process when all I wanted to do was fall apart. We have such a mountain to climb but I will do anything to have my girl back. If i could ask anything I would ask that you continue to hold our Rylee and this family up in your prayers as we face the biggest fight of our lives....#ryleestrong

FDA: NEWS RELEASE - FDA Clears New Indications For Existing Lyme Disease Tests That May Help Streamline Diagnoses
July 29, 2019 - Today, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration cleared for marketing four previously cleared tests with new indications to aid in the diagnosis of Lyme disease. The tests cleared today are the first time that a test has been indicated to follow a new testing paradigm in which two tests called enzyme immunoassays (EIA) are run concurrently or sequentially, rather than the current two-step process in which a separate protein test called a Western Blot must be run after the initial EIA test.
“Lyme disease can have a devastating impact on patients. With today’s action, clinicians have a new option to test for Lyme that is easier to interpret by a clinical laboratory due to the streamlined method of conducting the test. These tests may improve confidence in diagnosing a patient for a condition that requires the earliest possible treatment to ensure the best outcome for patients,” said Tim Stenzel, M.D., Ph.D., director of the Office of In Vitro Diagnostics and Radiological Health in the FDA’s Center for Devices and Radiological Health.

FTC: Who’s reporting robocalls?
July 29, 2019 - Lead Data Analyst, Division of Consumer Response & Operations
Have you ever reported an unwanted call to the FTC, whether it’s a robocall (where you hear a recorded message) or call from a live person? If so, thank you. Reporting, I’m sorry to say, won’t end these annoying calls, but it helps the FTC and other law enforcement agencies investigate and bring cases against scammers and businesses that aren’t following the law. In fact, the FTC’s recent actions against robocallers show what your report can do.
Please keep reporting those calls. You can report unwanted calls at donotcall.gov. The FTC also takes the phone numbers you report and releases them each business day to help companies working on call-blocking solutions.
Learn more about unwanted calls at ftc.gov/calls.
FTC: Worshipers targeted by gift card scam
July 29, 2019 - We’re seeing a new spin on gift card scams. This time, scammers are pretending to be a pastor, rabbi, priest, imam, or bishop. They’re asking worshipers for gift card contributions for a worthy cause. Appeals are often made by email, but we’ve heard people are also getting texts and phone calls, too.
Governor Jay Inslee: Inslee announces that Serve Washington received $17.8 million in AmeriCorps funding
July 29, 2019 - Gov. Jay Inslee today announced that Serve Washington, the state’s commission on national and community service, has been awarded $17.8 million in AmeriCorps funding from the Corporation for National and Community Service, the federal agency responsible for AmeriCorps and other national service programs. Funds awarded to Serve Washington are subgranted to Washington nonprofit organizations, state and local governments and educational institutions following a highly competitive process.
AmeriCorps is based on public-private partnerships, with AmeriCorps grantees leveraging significant outside resources to operate their programs. The $17.8 million in federal funds received will be matched by more than $25 million in local resources.

FTC: Equifax Data Breach: Beware of Fake Settlement Websites
July 29, 2019 - Just last week, we told you to go to ftc.gov/Equifax to find out if your information – like your Social Security number – was exposed in the September 2017 Equifax data breach. At that same website, you can also start a claim for benefits available under the settlement that the FTC and others reached with Equifax.
Wouldn’t you know it? People may have already started putting up fake websites meant to look like the official Equifax settlement claims website. To be sure you’re going to the right place, start at the FTC’s page: ftc.gov/Equifax.
Digital Trends: New Capital One Data Breach Affects 100 Million People. Here’s The Very Latest
July 29, 2019 - A massive data breach of Capital One exposed the personal data of approximately 100 million people, including nearly about 80,000 bank account numbers and 140,000 Social Security numbers.
Federal authorities arrested a Seattle-area woman, Paige A. Thompson. They said Thompson, who worked for a Capital One contractor, stole the data from the bank’s credit card applications in March, according to Bloomberg.
Capital One acknowledged the data breach on Monday, saying it affected “approximately 100 million individuals in the United States and approximately 6 million in Canada.”
FTC: What The FTC Facebook Settlement Means For Consumers
July 24, 2019 - The next time users visit Facebook, things might not look different, but big changes are brewing behind the scenes. The FTC’s record-breaking $5 billion settlement requires Facebook to conduct a massive overhaul of its consumer privacy practices. The settlement also makes major changes to Facebook’s operations and CEO Mark Zuckerberg no longer has sole control over privacy.
As Facebook puts its new privacy program in place, consumers should take a fresh look at their settings.
How much personal information do you really want to share? A platform’s default settings may not be your most privacy-protective option. Whether it’s Facebook or any other platform, revisit your toolbars, privacy settings, etc., to make sure the system is set up to honor your choices and preferences.
