Lewis County Solid Waste Utility asks:
Please place these items in your garbage can. They cannot be recycled in your curbside recycling containers or drop-off recycling boxes at the transfer stations.

One reader responded:
But paper napkins, towels and plates can be composted in yard waste bins!

LC Solid Waste clarified:
They can be composted in your backyard home compost bins, not in curbside organics programs in Lewis County or drop-off yard waste programs at Lewis County transfer stations. Both of these programs send the organic materials to Silver Springs Organics in Rainier. They cannot compost paper products or other compostable-ware because their permit limits their composting process to 45 days. Compostable paper or other products take considerably longer to break down.

We do have special recycling events for the Styrofoam blocks and food containers, but they must be rinsed clean and dry.
The next Styrofoam recycling event will be on Oct. 13 during the Gardening For Everyone Event at Centralia College.

Today:
Hazo Hut and the Swap Shack at the Central Transfer Station in Centralia are open today until 4 p.m. Hazo Hut will accept your leftover or unwanted household hazardous waste and burned out fluorescent lights. The Swap Shack is the place you can pick up good reusable paint or cleaning products.
Both facilities open every Wednesday and first and third Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Toledo School District warned:
There is a book salesman in town who has used TSD employees' names to give the impression that they endorse his products. I have spoken with a few of these people and all have said that they do not endorse the product and may have purchased only to be rid of the salesman.

The school district does not endorse any product of this type and is not interested in doing so. We have contacted the salesman and requested that he cease this practice.

TES PTO posted two notes - Angela Norberg Bacon reminds:
Don’t forget to have your kids read over the summer, and complete 3 book reports so they get to attend a fun night once school starts up again. Here are the book report options in case anyone misplaced their packet.
