Reading off a printed sheet, various hands took turns carefully brushing the plaque, cleaning and restoring it to a luster perhaps not seen since it was placed here, one of 10 such between Tumwater and Vancouver, WA.

2016 marks the centennial anniversary of the original placements, and the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) are committed to restoration of these 100-year-old relics.

Shirley Stirling added: I am the Regent of the Sacajawea Chapter in Olympia.  Historic Preservation is my theme for my 2-year term, focusing on historic markers.
Cindy is the state DAR Historic Preservation Chair.  Diane Smith is the Sacajawea Chapter Historic Preservation Chair.  Fran is a good friend of mine and (I hope) a future member.

R.I.P. - The Cairn came down ingloriously following that snapshot last week, and the sculptor says he will mull the next reincarnation carefully. Keep your eyes open for wild, weird and wondrous sightings. Crop circles, anyone?

For all the things Pinterest doesn’t do (and those are few), The Gadgeteer fills my dream list - I mean, creative idea generator. And I love the reviews, especially the comments. It didn’t help that it was almost 90 degrees outside when I made this video.
