Per Predictive Services of the NIFC conditions appear to be easing west of the Cascades in Washington State, but much of central and eastern Washington remain at above normal activity. That said, there's currently a 50 acre fire burning on the coast in Grays Harbor County so do not assume the fire danger has passed anywhere in the state. Remain vigilant. Both sides of the state need a great deal more precipitation.
Toledo Mayor Proclaims September 2018 Childhood Cancer Awareness Month
My daughter, Layla (now 4), was diagnosed with Stage 4 High Risk Neuroblastoma at 18 months old in October 2015. She finished treatment, which included chemotherapy, multiple surgeries, tandem transplants, radiation and immunotherapy, in February 2017.Layla, her older brother, Owen & myself are now dedicated to bringing light, love and awareness to this disease. We volunteer with Seattle Children’s Hospital on behalf of Uncompensated Care and Strong Against Cancer, Fred Hutch, Be The Match, Tyler Robinson Foundation and Northwest Sarcoma Foundation.
Thank you so much for your consideration of this request...because kids can’t fight against cancer alone!

USDA Launches Trade Mitigation Programs
Press Release No. 0172.18
Contact: USDA Press
(Washington, D.C., September 4, 2018) – U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue (Tuesday) launched the trade mitigation package aimed at assisting farmers suffering from damage due to unjustified trade retaliation by foreign nations. Producers of certain commodities can now sign up for the Market Facilitation Program (MFP), while USDA will also begin to purchase identified commodities under a food purchase and distribution program. Additionally, USDA has begun accepting proposals for the Agricultural Trade Promotion Program (ATP), which will help American farmers find and access new markets for their products. In total, USDA will authorize up to $12 billion in programs, consistent with World Trade Organization obligations.
Perdue announced in July that USDA would act to aid farmers in response to trade damage from unjustified retaliation. President Trump directed Secretary Perdue to craft a short-term relief strategy to protect agricultural producers while the Administration works on free, fair, and reciprocal trade deals to open more markets in the long run to help American farmers compete globally. These programs will assist agricultural producers to meet some of the costs of disrupted markets.

TES PTO posted: TES Kids Garden Update
The garden is no longer open for community harvest. School is back in session and all remaining harvest is planned for garden science classes.
Thanks to all who helped keep the garden watered through the summer. Every student at TES will reap the reward!
*If you picked the tiny pumpkins, please return them to the garden. They are not edible and were slated for painting at the harvest festival. Thanks so much for your understanding.
Common Ground Toledo shared:
Common Ground Toledo would like to thank Mayor Steve Dobosh for assisting us in watering the gardens every Monday evening.
Also, special thanks to Chimi’s restaurant for letting us use their hose to water the “Big 5” planters.
It’s been a very dry and smoky summer, keeping the gardens watered and beautiful has only been possible due to the volunteer efforts of our Water Posse, business owners, and the City.
We’re still looking for more Water Posse members to water the Timberland Bank gardens and the Post Office on a weekly basis. Every bit helps, if you or someone you know would like to volunteer with Common Ground, comment here or send us a message.
