FDA Issues 2nd Recall: New Contaminant Found In Some Lots Of Valsartan,
Spokane’s KXLY4News reported Thursday.
In response to the second impurity being identified, Health Canada also released guidance on what patients taking affected valsartan medications should do.
What to do if you take valsartan
If you are worried your drug could be on the recall list, talk with your doctor or pharmacist before changing any routine with your medicine. Because not all valsartan drugs are involved in the (second) recall, they might be able to switch you to a version of the drug made by another company.
FoodSafety.gov issued these recalls September 12:
- Bravo Packing, Inc. Recalls Performance Dog Raw Pet Food Because of Possible Salmonella Health Risk to Humans and Animals
- Sarap Asian Fusion Recalls Cookies due to Undeclared Allergens
- Voluntary Recall Notice of Meijer Taco Seasoning Mix 4.5 oz.
Washington State Department of Agriculture Ag Briefs blog posted Thursday:
Last month a team of nine WSDA biologists learned how to do something most hadn’t done since childhood – climb trees.
“When it comes to inspecting damage high up in the canopy of a tree, there are really only two options – climb up to inspect the damage or cut the tree down. With this training, we can inspect trees while keeping them standing,” Pahs said.
Merely by being present at the training location brought home the reality of the massive damage that invasive pests can do to the team. When training, they would hear trees crash to the ground – dead and falling ash trees destroyed by Emerald Ash Borer infestations.

WSU Lewis County Master Gardeners shared a post from The News Tribune (Tacoma):
Some of Washington’s biggest trees are dying and scientists don’t know why.
Randle’s Patty Vance noted “We started to see a decline (in the last 10 years),” Vance said. “The leaves would start to get stressed looking and a little smaller and sparse.”
Says Mona Rae Fish of Lewis County Seniors: Rumors of our demise are greatly exaggerated!
OK, what she actually said: Lewis County Seniors are enjoying great support from their community. Second Time Around Thrift Store 3-Day Labor Day Weekend parking lot sale was an overwhelming success, this year’s rest stop coffee-&-cookie fundraisers collected significant donations from I-5 travelers, and community support has been strong as the LCS head into the 4th quarter of their first year as a non-profit entity. They have 5-year leases on their facilities, they’re solvent fiscally, and sources reveal Senator John Braun regularly attends monthly Board meetings.*
*Meetings held at Twin Cities Senior Center.
Looking Ahead - Toledo Senior Center hosts:

Looking Ahead: Two weeks - Lewis County Permaculture Society 11th Annual Convergence
Check out the latest newsletter from the Permaculture Convergence! It’s shaping into quite the event, and we hope to have as many locals there as possible to show off our wonderful community. Plenty of work trade and volunteer options are still available for discounted and free tickets. Contact Laura Sweany and Cassie Hermione Driver for more details on this exciting opportunity for Lewis County.
Joanne Dennis says: Hello again to all you intrepid Permaculture peeps! Our 11th Annual Northwest Permaculture Convergence is coming up soon: September 28-30 at the beautiful Camp Singing Wind in Toledo, WA. We have been busy organizing things for the most interactive event of our region, and it will be full of all the aspects – loads of amazing workshops, wonderful food, great networking opportunities, a vibrant Marketplace, powerful keynote speakers – plus several additional features we've only tasted in the past: a Saturday night Contra Dance, a thoroughly rustic location, a robust Kid’s Program, Friday morning pre-event tours, and more. This year, we are even offering a NEW delight: a real-time installation of a swales-on-contour project within the Convergence site itself!
