Toledo City Council: Summary
From Monday, September 17, 2018

Mayor Steve Dobosh proclaimed September 2018 as Senior Center Month after a list of contributions and benefits were read aloud acknowledging the value to the community of having Toledo Senior Center and the men & women who keep it vital and relevant.

Chief John Brockmueller reported no uptick in calls, but reminded the council September 27th will be the last day on the calendar for Patrol Officers Steve Dawes and Coleman Nelson following the end of Winlock’s contract with Toledo to provide services.

Chimi’s Mexican Restaurant was granted their liquor license renewal.

The Council convened an Executive Session for a special workshop on RCW 42.30.110 (1C).*  No action is taken during an Executive Session, the session explores the RCW, which states:      (1) Nothing contained in this chapter* may be construed to prevent a governing body from holding an executive session during a regular or special meeting:
...
(c) To consider the minimum price at which real estate will be offered for sale or lease when public knowledge regarding such consideration would cause a likelihood of decreased price. However, final action selling or leasing public property shall be taken in a meeting open to the public...

Public Input: Joe Notch submitted a preliminary outline of a proposed new structure which would be located on Ramsey Way between Timberland Bank & Valley View Clinic. Designed as a multi-use building, the questions arose regarding utility hook-ups and parking. Projections for final use are in early stages of development yet.
Notch also owns another commercial property in town.

Meeting adjourned 6:45 PM

This is exciting - soon students at Forest School can learn to care for goats at Camp Singing Wind! We had a visit from these goats at day-camp this summer and the campers loved them! Please join us for a fun work party (and come check out Camp Singing Wind if you haven’t yet!) to help us make this happen…

Monday’s Trail Clearing With Goats Event

Goat Rendezvous October 13
Camp Singing Wind is going to host their own mini-herd of Telegraph Farm goats this winter! This “Rendez” will help us deconstruct and rebuild pens to house the newest CSW members.

We’ll be pulling t-posts, creating a fenced area, and constructing a three-sided shelter so bring gloves and any tools you can contribute! We’ll bring the party...of goats!

Lewis County Solid Waste Utility reminder:
The end of the free disposal voucher program is nearing! Sept. 29 is the last day to use your voucher. This program offers Lewis County residents an opportunity to dispose of up to 1,000 pounds of household refuse at no charge. The voucher is good for one trip to one of the Lewis County transfer stations, and cannot be used for tires, appliances, computers, televisions or hazardous waste. If you rent your property, you must visit one of the transfer stations to fill out an application, show your driver's license and a utility bill, proving that you live at that address. Here is the link to get the voucher, if you are a homeowner: vouchers.lewiscountywa.gov.

Tech Report: Win10, Apple, Chrome OS, Android News

Toledo’s own A Grey Area Computer Repair posted this link, saying:
This is a decent take on the question of whether Microsoft is going to go to a subscription charge for Windows 10.
https://www.howtogeek.com/…/no-microsoft-isnt-turning-wind…/

The rest of the story from Forbes Sept 8, 2018:
Of course, for Windows 7 owners this was never something they expected to pay. ... In a new blog post entitled “Helping customers shift to a modern desktop”, Microsoft has announced that it will indeed start charging Windows 7 customers a monthly fee from January 14th 2020, if they want to keep their computers safe.
Caveat: excludes all versions except Win7 Professional or Enterprise in Volume Licensing.

How-To Geek asked & answered Monday: iOS 12 is Out Today But Should You Upgrade?
What’s the Harm in Upgrading Right Away?
Historically, almost every time Apple releases a major new software version, there are huge and gigantic bugs for some people that sometimes make your phone unusable for a few days until they fix the problem.
So What's New in iOS 12 That Makes It Worthwhile?
Apple was able to improve battery life and system speed, even on older devices. There are a bunch of new features: improved performance, grouped notifications, Siri shortcuts, screen time, and a ton of other stuff.
You can read all the details in this article.

Wikipedia defines Chrome OS thus: Chrome OS is an operating system designed by Google ...based on the Linux kernel and uses the Google Chrome web browser as its principal user interface.

PCMag rated Chrome OS in August 2018, titled simply: Google Chrome OS
Pros: Powers low-cost computers. Good security with automatic updates. Runs Android apps. Fast boot up. Tight integration with many Google services. Easy user switching. Stylus support. Improved Offline features.
Cons: Inconsistent app behavior among Android apps and between Android and Chrome apps. No desktop icons. Unexpected program and system shutdowns. Weak file management. Difficult VPN setup.
Bottom Line: Chrome OS offers an inexpensive way to browse the web and run web apps and some Android apps. Windows 10 and macOS offer more polish, conveniences, and hardware integrations, however.

What is Android OS used for?
Android is an OS created by Google for use on mobile devices, such as smartphones and tablets.

AndroidAuthority lists: Here are all the Chromebooks that run Android and Linux apps.
(My $179 ACER is one of them!)
