The Cowlitz only recently gained federally recognized status as a sovereign nation and granted lands, and support their brothers and sisters at the Standing Rock protest in the Dakotas seeking to preserve historic sites.

Toledo Food Share was back in front of Toledo’s historic jailhouse at noon Sunday, with September’s bounty trading hands amid smiles. Grapes, apples, greens, carrots, tomatoes, and zukes. Lots of zukes. Tip: Best faux Eggplant Parmesan substitutes huge thick zucchini slices, salted both sides to draw out excess water then patted dry before layering as usual.

Bonus: I met Moose, a new addition to the clan, clearly a Public Relations expert despite his youth. The Otter chatted with Moose while I swapped produce with the others. Meet him for yourself next week, tell him I sent you.
