FTC: Truly Organic? The FTC Says No, Alleges Retailer Misled Consumers about Its Products
Bath and beauty retailer to pay $1.76 million to settle Commission allegations
September 19, 2019 - Miami Beach-based retailer Truly Organic Inc. (Truly Organic) and its founder and CEO, Maxx Harley Appelman, will pay $1.76 million to settle a Federal Trade Commission complaint alleging that their nationally marketed bath and beauty products are neither “100% organic” nor “certified organic” by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).
According to the FTC’s complaint* since at least 2015, the defendants have advertised, labeled, offered for sale, and sold a range of personal care products to consumers, including haircare products, body washes, lotions, baby products, personal lubricants, and cleaning sprays. The products fall into two basic categories: 1) those that Truly Organic “makes” by buying wholesale bath and beauty products and adding ingredients designed to increase their visual appeal; and 2) “bath bombs” and soaps that they buy as finished products from online wholesalers and resell at a substantial markup.
Truly Organic sells products nationwide using its own website and social media accounts. The company also sells through third-party websites, such as ulta.com, urbanoutfitters.com, nordstrom.com, and aerie.com, and provides third parties with marketing materials used to market and sell Truly Organic products.
FDA: Recall - Updated: Torrent Pharmaceuticals Limited Expands Voluntary Nationwide Recall of Losartan Potassium Tablets, USP and Losartan Potassium / Hydrochlorothiazide Tablets, USP
September 19, 2019 - Torrent Pharmaceuticals Limited is expanding its recall for Losartan Potassium Tablets USP and Losartan Potassium / hydrochlorothiazide tablets, USP, to the consumer level due to the detection of trace amounts of an unexpected impurity while testing the below finished product batches manufactured utilizing active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) manufactured by Hetero Labs Limited using the old Route of Synthesis. The recall is expanded to include an additional 3 lots of Losartan Potassium Tablets USP and 2 lots of Losartan Potassium/Hydrochlorothiazide Tablets, USP.
The impurity detected is N-Methylnitrosobutyric acid (NMBA). Torrent is only recalling lots of losartan-containing products that contain N-Methylnitrosobutyric acid (NMBA) above the acceptable daily intake levels released by the FDA.

Governor Jay Inslee: Inslee joins AG Ferguson and Superintendent Reykdal in support of undocumented students
September 19, 2019 - Gov. Jay Inslee, Attorney General Bob Ferguson and Superintendent of Public Instruction Chris Reykdal sent a letter to Washington school administrators earlier this week that details concerns about the well-being of undocumented students and their families. The Trump administration has maintained its call for an increase in removal actions, stoking fear across all immigrant communities.
"That is why the three of us are standing together to make clear that all students, regardless of immigration status, are not only welcome in our state, but have a right to be educated. The Washington State Constitution proclaims that it is our paramount duty to educate every child who resides within our borders; the U.S. Supreme court has ruled that all children in the United States, all children, are entitled to a free public education; and the Keep Washington Working Act requires that our educational services be available to all students."

VETS CAFE posted: Rabbit Droppings Best Fertilizer For Your Garden
Rabbits produce manure that is arguably the BEST for the gardeners' purposes. It is ready for use with absolutely no composting: no building bins, no heavy work turning the piles, no trucking in loads of manure from animals who may be heavily medicated.
Just park an old wheelbarrow under the cage if you like, wheel to the garden, and dump. If you want to water houseplants or tender seedlings, make a manure tea using a quart or more of rabbit droppings soaked in five gallons of water.
Let it sit for a day or two, stir a few times, then strain the tea into your watering can to avoid clogging with the fine fibers.
You can dump the fibrous remainder around your berry bushes or other shrubs as mulch!
Lewis County Beekeepers Association posted: TRUMP’S EPA SAID THIS BEE-KILLING INSECTICIDE IS SAFE, NOW BEEKEEPERS ARE SUING.
September 20, 2019 - Today, beekeepers, represented by Earthjustice, sued Trump’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for allowing sulfoxaflor, a bee-killing pesticide linked to a nation-wide honeybee die-off, back on the market. The lawsuit comes as beekeepers around the country lost over 40 percent of their colonies this last year.
Touted as a “next generation neonicotinoid,” sulfoxaflor is like other bee-killing neonicotinoid insecticides: it is systemic, meaning it is absorbed into the growing plant, making it toxic to insects for many days thereafter. When foraging honey bees bring back to the hive pollen and nectar tainted with sulfoxaflor, the effect on the entire colony can be catastrophic.
