Toledo School District: A Gentle Reminder…

A gentle reminder: The curb in front of TES is for loading and unloading only while the driver remains with the vehicle from 7:30-8:30 a.m. and from 2:30-3:30 p.m. This allows for the safe drop off and pick up of children.
In the photo, the areas marked in green are for parking. The area in red (from crosswalk to crosswalk) is not. Please help us maintain a safe zone for children and families on 6th Street.
Picture
Toledo Police Sergeant Randy Pennington adds a somewhat less-gentle reminder:
And DO NOT stop in the lane and let children out of your car in the street, or pick them up in the street. If you can’t pull to the curb, you must go around or stop on a side street - PERIOD - NO EXCUSE, NO REASONS.
It is very dangerous and we do not want someone hurt, child or adult. And although I would rather educate drivers by talking to them and educate them to know not to do that, it is a traffic violation and you can get a ticket for doing that. Help us keep your kids safe.

TES PTO posted: The Bad News...

Sometime between after school on Friday and this morning...someone came into the TES Kids Garden. They cut all the grape vines, pulled the rhubarb, smashed melons, smashed squash, and smashed pumpkins intended for our Fall Ball Festival & then took the chain and left the gate wide open. This is the second time the garden has been vandalized since school started. Early in September someone pulled all the carrots and left them thrown around the garden. This breaks my heart & I am hoping someone knows something as our security cameras were off line due to a power outage.

If you hear anything or saw anything - please contact me (‎Angela Norberg Bacon‎).
...

Then The Good News… Sunday update: Someone did see something so we have a credible lead
…

Brandie Devine stepped up in true Toledo Spirit with an invitation: Please contact the elementary school if you would like to donate your excess of pumpkins so they can complete their project.

FDA: FDA Updates and Press Announcements on NDMA in Zantac (ranitidine)
FDA is alerting health care professionals and patients to a voluntary recall of over-the-counter (OTC) ranitidine tablets (75 mg and 150 mg), labeled by Walgreens, Walmart, and Rite-Aid and manufactured by Apotex Corp due to the detection of NDMA impurity: https://go.usa.gov/xVvtA.  This means consumers will no longer see the recalled ranitidine products on the shelves of affected retailers.

FDA is continuing to test ranitidine products from multiple manufacturers and assess the possible effect on patients who have been taking ranitidine. FDA will take appropriate measures based on the results of this ongoing investigation and provide more information as it becomes available.

Governor Jay Inslee: Inslee issues executive order to change how state will regulate vaping industry in light of recent health crisis
Picture

Patty Kuderer, Washington State Dept. of Health Secretary John Wiesman, and Gov, Jay Inslee speak at a Seattle press conference about changes to how the state regulates the vaping industry in light of a recent health crisis Friday. (Office of the Governor photo)

September 27, 2019 - Gov. Jay Inslee announced an executive order at a Seattle press conference Friday that changes how agencies will regulate, monitor, and communicate about a variety of vaping products. Other state leaders, including Attorney General Bob Ferguson and Washington State Department of Health Secretary John Wiesman, spoke at the event.

“We aren’t waiting for Big Tobacco to tell us what is in their products,” Inslee said. “We aren’t going to take health guidance from them, because we know that their goals are to make money and create new customers. That is what they are interested in. We are interested in ensuring that adults and young people have known and regulated ingredients in vaping products. Everyone deserves to know what is in the vaping liquid they are inhaling into their lungs.”

The announcement comes after medical professionals reported seven cases of severe lung illness in Washington from vaping devices or e-cigarette products. The Center for Disease Control has reported at least 12 deaths nationwide, as well as more than 800 cases of lung injury possibly related to these products.

AG FERGUSON: FEDERAL JUDGE BLOCKS ADMINISTRATION’S ATTEMPT TO REMOVE PROTECTIONS FOR IMMIGRANT CHILDREN

September 27, 2019 - OLYMPIA — Attorney General Bob Ferguson issued the following statement today after a federal judge permanently blocked new Trump Administration rules that remove significant protections against the mistreatment of immigrant children and families apprehended at the U.S. border:

“The court has stopped the Trump Administration’s attempt to issue itself a license for the cruel and inhumane treatment of children. This Administration’s disregard for the basic human rights of immigrant children and families is breathtaking. Remember, this same Administration recently tried to argue that it’s not inhumane to fail to provide detained children soap, toothbrushes or a place to sleep. I look forward to continuing to fight this Administration’s unlawful and abhorrent policies in court.”
