Sunday, NWS reported: Dry weather and strong east winds are currently blowing dust and ash westward off of the slopes of Mt St Helens, which should continue through this afternoon. There has been NO volcanic eruption.
The blowing dust and ash will primarily impact aviation users immediately to the west of Mt St Helens. In addition, people should avoid outdoor activities immediately west of Mt St Helens as the blowing dust and ash may result in respiratory problems. Repeat, there has been NO volcanic eruption.
Washington State Fire Wire confirmed:
FALSE ALARM - SKAMANIA COUNTY (WA): We've seen "smoke reports" and even "volcanic eruption reports" out of Mount Saint Helens in Skamania County. This has been confirmed as dust blowing off the mountain slopes amidst gusting east wind conditions.
Of course, as always it's better to be safe than sorry. If you see what you believe is smoke? Call it in.
As for Mount Saint Helens however, no wildfires or eruptions... Just blowing dust at this hour.
