The disease has not been detected in Washington State, but was detected earlier this year in feral rabbits in British Columbia. You can learn more about this recent case and how to protect your rabbits here: https://content.govdelivery.com/accounts/USDAAPHIS/bulletins/2109b9f

Lewis County Commissioners Chambers Way surfacing UPDATE October 15:

UPDATED CLOSURE INFORMATION FROM WSDOT
UPDATE: The 60-hour closure of Chamber Way has been rescheduled to start at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 17 due to unforeseen delays in preparatory work necessary in advance of the closure.

CHEHALIS – More than two years after the Chamber Way overpass was damaged by an oversized load, the new bridge structure above Interstate 5 in Chehalis is complete and work to finish the roadway connections is gearing up.

Beginning Wednesday, Oct. 17, contractor crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation will close Chamber Way between the I-5 ramps. The closure will last for up to 60 hours and will allow crews to complete all grading and paving work to tie in the new bridge with the final roadway alignment. Following the closure, the new Chamber Way overpass will reopen to traffic, providing a wider structure with improved sidewalk facilities and a higher vertical clearance.

“The extended closure of Chamber Way eliminates three weeks of staged construction, significantly reducing overall traffic impacts prior to the start of the holiday season,” said WSDOT project engineer Susan Fell. “We understand that the closure will affect all users of this well-traveled overpass and we are doing our best to minimize impacts to the community and traveling public.”

In addition to avoiding several weeks of staged construction, consolidating the work into a 60-hour extended closure also increases the odds that weather-dependent work such as paving can be completed this season.

Signed detours will guide travelers through the area during the closure. People who use the sidewalk will be able to cross I-5 using the new bridge during the closure.

Closure and detour information:
  • Wednesday, Oct. 17 to the morning of Saturday, Oct. 20: Chamber Way will close between the I-5 ramps from 7 p.m. Oct. 15 to 7 a.m. Oct. 18.
  • Wednesday, Oct. 17 to the morning of Thursday, Oct. 18: The northbound I-5 off-ramp to Chamber Way will close from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. for paving.
  • Friday, Oct. 19 to the morning of Saturday, October 20: The northbound I-5 off-ramp to Chamber Way will close from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. for paving.
The final paving work is weather dependent and the closure dates may change based on the weather forecast.
