Public Service Announcement: Sergeant Randy Pennington on Frosty Mornings

Just a reminder folks, weather changing, frosty windows in mornings are here again, plan a few extra minutes so you are not running late and have to hurry.
(Monday I) saw way too many folks bringing their kids to school, driving with their windshield frosted and trying to drive, peeping through a small open circle on the windshield. I stopped one young parent doing 34mph past the middle school. No, she wasn't trying to be reckless. She was just a parent busy trying to get her kid to school and lost track of her speed, but that is how tragedies happen. At 34mph, stopping distance is between 109 and 136 feet - that's about two school bus lengths.
The driver and I had a cop-to-driver education opportunity, and hopefully (they) learned not to be in such a hurry.
Kids are excited and dont always pay attention so the duty to protect our kids doesn't just fall on the shoulders of cops (with) radar, but the mantle of responsibility is on all of us - adults, cops, teachers, parents and all drivers. Let's all be safe and not have a tragedy.

Tks folks
~Randy

FTC: FTC Sues Publisher for Targeting Seniors With Phony Diabetes Cure and Money Making Schemes

October 29, 2019 - Continuing its work to protect older Americans from fraud, the Federal Trade Commission sued a publisher called Agora Financial, LLC, alleging that it tricks seniors into buying books, newsletters, and other publications that falsely promise a cure for type 2 diabetes or promote a phony plan to help them cash in on a government-affiliated check program.
...
According to the FTC’s complaint, Agora Financial and some of its affiliates target publications, including The Doctor’s Guide to Reversing Diabetes in 28 Days (The Doctor’s Guide), primarily at older consumers nationwide.
...
The Doctor’s Guide
Agora and the affiliates market The Doctor’s Guide online through e-mail distribution lists, online newsletters, affiliate networks, and their own websites. They advertise The Doctor’s Guide as a simple and scientifically proven protocol that can permanently cure type 2 diabetes in 28 days, without any changes in diet or exercise. The Doctor’s Guide sells for $249, which the defendants claim is “a $750 discount,” compared to what consumers would have to pay for in-person treatment using the same protocol.
...
Congressional Checks
The FTC also alleged that Agora Financial and a second group of defendants market other publications, a newsletter called Lifetime Income Report and a book titled Congress’ Secret $1.17 Trillion Giveaway to consumers, falsely promising that it will show them how to claim hundreds of thousands of dollars they are entitled to in “Congressional Checks” or “Republican Checks.”
...
The Commission alleged that the misrepresentations and unsubstantiated claims made by both sets of defendants violate the FTC Act. The agency is seeking a court order halting the allegedly deceptive conduct, and to obtain money back for consumers.

Press Release

WASHINGTON, October 29, 2019 - U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue today announced the establishment of the U.S. Domestic Hemp Production Program. This program, as required by the 2018 Farm Bill, creates a consistent regulatory framework around hemp production throughout the United States.

“At USDA, we are always excited when there are new economic opportunities for our farmers, and we hope the ability to grow hemp will pave the way for new products and markets,” said Secretary Perdue. “We have had teams operating with all hands-on-deck to develop a regulatory framework that meets Congressional intent while seeking to provide a fair, consistent, and science-based process for states, tribes, and individual producers who want to participate in this program.”
