Remember the story about Nail Soup? A hungry traveler proclaims to a poor widow he can make a heavenly meal with nothing more than an old bent nail in a pot of water. In reply to the old woman’s queries, the cook sighs aloud that just a bit of salt would bring out the full flavor, regretting the lack, whereupon the woman decides she could perhaps find a bit and returns with it. The same scene is repeated as a few vegetables are likewise added to the bubbling liquid, dried meat, herbs, until finally the wayfarer invites her to join him for a fragrant bowl.
