JBLM reported:
15 active duty soldiers will take the oath of citizenship at Joint Base Lewis-McChord on Thursday.
The soldiers hailed from several different countries including American Samoa, China, Colombia, Haiti, Mexico, Nepal and the Philippines.
You don't have to be a citizen to sign up for the military, but it does speed up the citizenship process for service members and their families.

A favorite activity: helping Farmer Brian feed the chickens and ducks…
What a great week for mushroom exploration at forest school! Children enjoyed hunting for, sorting, characterizing, and categorizing mushrooms around the craft house, in the play fields and along the trails. They developed their own code language for types and sizes of mushrooms they found to alert their friends; shouting loudly, “mushroom!” For larger finds, squeaking faintly, “mushroom!” for smaller discoveries, and for bunches of mushrooms in their own “village” they would call, “mushroom mushroom mushroom mushroom mushroom!”
And this one:
Best of all:
Today was a first at Forest School - it was colder than usual in “the valley” but none of the littles wanted to go adventuring (our usual go-to for keeping our bodies warm) and opted instead for playtime at the craft house all day. Thankfully the middle schoolers made a cozy fire and we all roasted cranberries and pumpkins together!

This year I will miss joining My Uncle Bill at his usual church-sponsored Veterans Dinner, where active and retired members of all service branches were recognised for their sacrifices with flag ceremonies, entertainment, and personal contributions.
I will miss his humorous observations and hilarious stories about his experiences as a radio operator during the Korean conflict, once narrowly missing a sniper’s shot while in an airstrip tower.
I will miss his rendition of “We’re Going Home” and his oft-recited Kipling, memorized while he awaited his transport home, tucked into a library for hours.
I will miss his detailed descriptions of military aircraft, artillery and firearms, his recall perfect as he would point out any museum artifact, photograph or craft.
I will miss our trips to Veterans Day and Memorial Day ceremonies, his uniform starched and pressed, shoes and medals polished, freshly barbered countenance solemn as jets flew overheard, 21-gun salutes carried out, colors returned, standing at attention in oppressive heat or freezing rain.
I will miss our lunches out, his straight-backed military stride and choreographed swift dart to holding the door for me, pulling out my chair, sitting only after I was seated.
I will miss his enjoyment of one rare beer with his meal because he had a driver.
I will miss his well-rehearsed wisecracks with the waitresses, his ever-present pocket calculator extracted when the bill arrived to check the math and compute a precise tip.
I will miss his admonition each time we parted, whispered into my ear as he gave me a hug & a kiss, recognizing my own precarious health as well as his own: “Don’t you go dying on me - I’m the one who’s supposed to go first.”
And how miraculously I kept that promise to him.
I will miss my Uncle Bill this year.
