Speaking of Christmases past, is there anything more evocative of the season than the aroma of Grandma’s holiday baking? And the feast - makes my mouth water just thinking about it.
And the stories! Grandpa illustrated long-ago memories of his own boyhood sometimes with faded photos, oftener with a little embroidering. Nobody knew better how to filch goodies from under Grandma's nose as she worked the kitchen with timing and precision.
Today Grandma sits down to lunch once or twice a week with her friends and neighbors, because meals are meant to be shared. Conversation, news, cute great-grandbaby photos. Right? And Grandpa discusses current events, projects underway at home and around town, plans the next Second Saturday Breakfast, community dinner, Second Time Around Garage Sale, Holiday Bazaar...
Not if budget cuts shutter Grandma and Grandpa’s favorite lunch venue.
The Lewis County Tribune reports: "Lewis County is being forced to transition control of its five county-owned senior centers to cities or nonprofit organizations after June 30, 2017, county commissioners and county employees told a rowdy crowd of seniors that filled the Olequa Senior Center on Nov. 29."
(More here.)
Today the Lewis County Board of Commissioners meets their constituents 12:30 p.m. at Toledo Senior Center. Tell them what Toledo Senior Center means to you - to your community.
And if you’re online, sign the Save Our Senior Centers in Lewis County on gopetition.com. Room to leave your message too. Special thanks to Toledo Lions Club for this link.
