CNET: Toyota, Lexus recall 133,000 trucks and SUVs in two separate recalls.
These recalls are unrelated to the Takata recall the automaker announced earlier Thursday.

Earlier on Thursday, Toyota announced that it was speeding up a recall to replace Takata airbag inflators for good, and now, it announced two more unrelated recalls.

Recall the first: Land Cruiser, LX 570 sensors. The first recall covers approximately 89,700 examples of the 2008-2019 Toyota Land Cruiser and 2008-2019 Lexus LX 570.

The problem here comes from the airbag and its related systems. A seat belt tension sensor might malfunction over time...

Recall the second: Tacoma brake master cylinders
The second recall covers approximately 44,000 examples of the 2018-2019 Tacoma midsize pickup truck.
The problematic part in this case is hiding in the brake master cylinder, which pushes the brake fluid used to engage the brakes at each wheel. An "improper manufacturing process by a part supplier" means that a seal in the master cylinder might begin leaking brake fluid.

Commissioner of Public Lands Hilary Franz posted:
I’ve asked for important investments in our firefighters, our salmon, and our landscapes. Thanks to Governor Jay Inslee for recognizing the weight of these requests and making significant investments in his budget. I look forward to working with #waleg to fully fund efforts to reduce wildfires, protect salmon and ensure economic opportunity.

The governor’s budget funds my critical request to build a more robust wildfire fighting force by equipping and training full-time firefighters, adding helicopters and addressing the forest health crisis that has led to larger, more destructive wildfires. bit.ly/WildfireAndForestHealthAsk

It also makes great strides to restoring and protecting the marine habitat of our salmon that are critical to the survival of southern resident orcas. bit.ly/EnviroAndSalmon

These are critical initiatives for the future of our forests, our waterways, our salmon, our orcas, our way of life. We can only build a safer, more productive Washington by seriously increasing the pace and scale at which we do this vital work.

Lewis County Solid Waste Utility early alert:

Learn how to turn 12- to 20-ounce plastic bottles into a cold frame to protect early seedlings from cool weather, and keep warm weather crops, such as tomatoes and peppers, warm and happy. The cold frames will give you a 5- to 20-degree increase in temperatures for your plants. WSU Lewis County Master Recycler Composter volunteers will walk you through the steps of making a cold frame, so you can learn to make your own at home. The demonstration cold frame will be given away in a drawing at the end of the class.
Please call 360-740-1216 or email swu@lewiscountywa.gov to register for the class by Jan. 8 and get directions to the class.

MAP enrichment programs shout out:

A big thanks to Renae Buswell for teaching our first homeschool sewing class! Everyone in the sewing class went home with a lovely therapeutic lavender, flax and corn filled fleece pillow to use or give as a holiday gift - what a treat!
…

Ann-Marie offered a gift-making science experience with crystals!
The children collected “just right rocks for crystal growing” on a walk to the beach last week then today they painted their crystals with watercolors - so pretty! Thank you Ann-Marie!
…

In my experience homemade Montessori works are the best! This little one worked on his fine motor task with a bit of sorting for more than 10 minutes straight, without prompting. In toddler-world that’s probably the equivalent of sitting down to complete an entire unit of a math lesson book!
P.s. thanks to my favorite personal Elf, #milaclairebear for making this holiday themed project for our classroom, per request.
…

Thank you Brooke and Izzy for bringing this adorable and simple arrow ornament craft to share with our children!

They enjoyed carefully choosing their sticks and selecting their personal combo of beads and feathers!
