Landscape Language -
Earthshine (noun) – Sunlight reflected by the earth’s surface that illuminates the moon
Just like moonshine can illuminate the earth, the earth can reflect sunlight to illuminate the moon through earthshine. Most of the time the direct sunlight hitting the moon masks any earthshine, but when there is a crescent moon, earthshine can reveal the shadowed side of the moon. The cold, clear weather this week has made it easy to see this phenomenon, which is sometimes described as the “old moon in the new moon’s arms”. In this photo, the crescent moon is accompanied by the brightly shining Venus. Do you have photos of the moon lit by earthshine?
*Admit it - you giggled when you read “moonshine,” didn’t you?

Toledo School District announces:
There will be a community visioning meeting on January 10 at 6pm at THS to brainstorm ideas and formulate a vision for the new school.
Also at that meeting, Supt Chris Rust will talk about the upcoming replacement levy and remind voters that bonds are for building only, and levies fund learning and everything else that goes along with learning and school programs. The existing levy is $2.17 per $1,000 and the proposed replacement is $1.50 per $1,000 which represents a .67 cent decrease. This will go to vote in February of 2019.
