Toledo Middle School students are continuing to work on the native plant restoration and erosion along the Old Pacific Hwy trail. Seventh grade students completed a study on native plants with a representative of the Chehalis Tribe, Charlene Abrahamson, and collected site soil data earlier this fall. All student teams have planted wildflower seeds in their aquaponic systems to transplant later in the spring. This year, students are hoping to plant wild roses on the trail. The roses seeds were collected on their visit with Mrs. Abrahamson.
Students will soon plant various seeds to investigate how well different root types hold soil. They will use the information to determine which types of plants are best for erosion control and will grow within their plots.
